St. Barts is where all the beautiful people live large.

The island is known as a magnet for the rich and famous.

Singer Jimmy Buffett is a frequent visitor on the island, and owns a house on the island.

David Letterman and Steve Martin also own property here too

Buffet will be performing at the 60th anniversary of the Le Select festival in November.

.St. Barts has over twenty hotels with 15 rooms or fewer. The largest, of these boutique hotels, the Hotel Guanahani & Spa, has 58 rooms.

Most of the rooms allocated to tourism on St Barts are found in private villas with over 400 privately owned and available for lease.

French communal law mandates that no building can be taller than a palm tree, so you'll find no high rises, and no massive resorts.

The airport can only accomodate small prop planes from St Martin and San Juan. The harbor is too small to accomodate cruise ships. But St Barts is best known for its beaches.

On the southern side of the island, Saline is a beach with no development. On the western edge is Colombier beach reachable only by by boat or a hike. St. Jean, Flamands and Grand-Cul-de-Sac beaches have hotels and other activities on them.

Shell Beach is where families head out with the kids since it has little surf. The main surfing beaches is Toiny known for a vicious riptide.

There are some warm water sharks around the island, and swimming at dusk and dawn or in murky waters is not recommended.

Daylight scuba and snorkeling are a great way to see the nurse sharks, lobsters, conch and green sea turtles

.Grand Cul-de-Sac is the favorite for learning sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing as it has a reef that closes off the entire bay. The current that passes outside the reef aloows for migrating whales and dolphins

.Annual events that attract the upscale clientele include New Years that features a migration of mega and giga yachts, the Carnival held in February, and The Bucket in late March featuring the largest sailing yachts in the world.
