Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts is on its way to becoming a respected repository for Caribbean Art and a Mecca for artist education and collaboration.
Over the past years, it has showcased the works of accomplished and emerging artists, and provided workshops seminars, forums and opportunities for artists in residence.
The Center, which was founded in 1994 by a local attorney, Candia Atwater, acquired a 6,500 square foot historic building on the waterfront in Frederiksted St. Croix, as a gift from an anonymous benefactor in 2003.
The building has been restored in phases and now showcases airy gallery and workshop space, a gift shop, a courtyard for special events, and an apartment for an artist in residence.
Various exhibits featuring Caribbean artists are offered throughout the year, along with art education workshops and multi media presentations.
The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday 10a.m. to 4p.m.,and during special celebrations and events.
