Ok, so you’ve heard it all before: Stress kills. But what about that check that gets lost in the mail, that driver who steals your parking space when you’re late for an appointment, the neighbor who plays Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band over and over, while he barbecues and his dog barks?

Of course, there’s the dwindling bank account, that deadline, the unreasonable partner and serious issues like illness in the family, and job loss.

But just STOP!

That’s right, STOP, and remember nothing is as bad as what stress can do to you.

Think you can extricate yourself from its deadly claws?

Well, consider proven facts.

Stress not only kills, but it also ages you more than any other known element.

During stressful periods you produce higher levels of cortisol, which interferes with hormones, immune system and brain and nerve function.

And even after the stress subsides, your body is a little weaker, and older.

Constant stress can make you more likely to get sick. If you have chronic illness it makes your symptoms worse.

Stress is linked to high blood pressure, abnormal heart beat, blood clots, and hardening of the arteries. It’s also associated with coronary disease and heart failure.

It causes neck, shoulder, and low back pain, and may make rheumatoid arthritis worse.

Stress is often at the root of low fertility, sexual dysfunction, problems during pregnancy, and painful menstrual periods.

It also exacerbates asthma, pulmonary disease, and skin problems like acne and psoriasis.

Next time you feel stress coming on, STOP, take a deep breath, and consider if what is bothering you is really worth getting sick.

Then chill out, and do something you enjoy.

You can’t rebound from stress as easily as you might think.

This should all be enough to scare you stress-less.
