Holiday for the body

I’m not a spa junkie - not enough time or money. Yet I’ve had my share of treats from simple facials to deep tissue massage.

But a visit to leSport in St. Lucia revealed a whole new planet of procedures for pampering.

The setting is out of this world.

Le sport, which promotes itself as “ the bodyholiday,” is a health ad wellness resort at Cariblue Beach in lovely St. Lucia.

The Oasis Center for Health and Well Being has been created in Moorish style architecture in a setting, which feels like a temple.

Le Sport was founded two decades ago, as one of the premier destinations of its kind in the Caribbean.

Over the years, it has kept up with advances in spa technology, while still staying committed to established wellness practices.

In fact Le Sport embraces Ayurveda, ancient Indian healing techniques. Ayurvedic encourage people to follow a pure lifestyle, one that gives clarity and peace.

LeSport’s motto is " Give us your body for a week, and we’ll give you back your mind.” Guests receive an inclusive package, which covers beach and garden side accommodations, healthy, culinary savvy cuisine, activities, and a choice of about a half dozen spa treatments each day of the stay.

Optional add ons include an array ayurvedic practices, nutrition counseling, yoga, and private instruction in tennis, sailing, golf and more.

Alas, my visit was only for an afternoon interlude during a hotel and tourism conference, held at nearby at Rodney Bay. Three journalists and I, feeling spent from too much time at a business expo, stole away for a couple of hours.

Choosing from the menu of treats offered in an inclusive guests package, we were escorted to three of Oasis’ 33 treatment rooms, which line a stately courtyard pool. Maureen, a writer from New York City, was signed up for hydrotherapy, which is purported to replenish essential elements and body salts, resulting in total relaxation.

Mark, from L.A. opted for a Lucian ginger and lime scrub, which involves body brushing, warm drizzled oil, and a milk bath., which rids the body of toxins. (He said he wanted to feel like he was ready to fry.)

Having a sore neck and shoulder from carrying a much too heavy computer bag, I choose a full body massage.

Fifty minutes later we emerged form our rooms, feeling refreshed and blessed, ready to resume our work.

Then the van scheduled to take us back to our hotel arrived late.

We had less than a half hour to download computer and photos files from the morning and change our clothes before covering an evening event.

But we weren't worried. We just smiled at each other, and went with the flow.
