Beaches and streets ripe for romance

If you live in or have ever visited Tortola you know it’s a spot ripe for romance and intimate interludes. It’s never congested with crowds. And there’s never barkers doing hard sells. Ditto for the hordes of ship worn tourists and tacky souvenir shops.

Tortola offers opportunities for an arm in arm exploration on any number of beaches. Favorites include a soothing stretch of sand at Cane Garden Bay, dotted with little shanties serving up luscious lunches and cold beer. Plan an afternoon on a hammock for two or settle into the swing on a porch overlooking the beach. En route visit the Heritage Inn, an intimate escape with wonderful food and views to match at its Banankeet Cafe.

A drive to the opposite end of Tortola will take you to Trellis Bay, a nice quiet, but interesting place to play - especially if you’ want to surf on a windy day. The winding road trip could provide a chance to get caught up with your significant other - or the two of you can just slip into a silent rhapsody with a favorite CD. If you want to embrace each other on and under the water, there’s plenty of small boats for snorkeling, sailing and diving.

Nightlife isn’t glitzy – no casinos or clubs. But who needs them ?

Just savor a sublime sunset. Then dine deliciously.
